Old Walls Vineyard

From the outside, the lodge brought Dirty Dancing lodges to mind. Inside it was beautiful, modern and clean, with all the mod cons. We stayed the night before my daughter's wedding, and she and the groom stayed there afterward.

We booked a lodge for a family wedding, expecting the advertised luxury, but it was far from that. The outside was dirty and clearly hadn't been maintained. The list of problems is too long for this post, and don't expect any Wi-Fi. When we raised it, the attitude was that it wasn't their problem, which felt very unfair.

We went back on Sunday after reading reviews, and the roast really did live up to its reputation. The beef was tender and perfectly pink, with a generous, amazing range of vegetables. The day before, breakfast had already impressed us: my husband had a full breakfast and I had avocado and eggs, all made with high-quality local produce. Welcome, service, food, drinks and the view were all a total 10 out of 10. Thank you.

We had roast dinner, and it was honestly the best I've had in a while. I'd been to Rick Steins The Cornish Arms for a roast the week before, and Old Walls far outshone it. There was lots of quality veg, a Yorkshire pudding even with the pork, and great cuts of meat. The wine was lovely too. I really liked the vibe, and with those gorgeous views, sitting outside on a sunny day would be lovely.
