The Caledonian Torbay Hotel

We had a lovely five-day break here with Caledonian Holidays. The room was nice and had a sea view, and the food was lovely, especially the puddings. One of us is vegetarian and the vegetarian option was great. The staff worked hard to keep us from waiting long for our meals. We took a couple of trips out and enjoyed them. I'd definitely recommend Caledonian Holidays.

The included trips from Caledonian were extremely good, and we enjoyed our stay enough that we'd definitely come back, hopefully after some improvement to the lift situation. Our room was spacious and clean, with clean bedding. The main drawback was having just one lift for this fairly large hotel and its four floors, with a notice limiting it to four people at a time. Waiting could be a problem if you couldn't manage four or more flights of stairs. Most guests were over 70, and quite a few had mobility difficulties. The corridors had worn carpets and paintwork. Like many old buildings, getting to our room meant a hike from the lift, with another set of steps up or down to our corridor depending on where the room was. That wasn't ideal for someone less mobile or using a wheelchair.

Rooms were really spacious and clean, and the staff were friendly. It's a very central hotel on flat ground, close to all the facilities in torquay, probably the best placed hotel there. Breakfast is self-service, dinner has a choice, and there weren't many queues at mealtimes.

My Son and I had a really welcoming stay, and the entertainment was fab. The place may not be modern, but the staff are great. It was well worth going.
