The staff were all lovely, which made the stay feel less bleak, but they couldn't do much about the run-down building. It was cheap, so I suppose I got what I paid for. I expected a basic Travelodge room to be a bit better than this, especially since the chain is usually a decent standard. I booked in Tunbridge Wells on that basis, but wouldn't choose this one again. I'd rather pay extra for the Premier Inn.

The spot was a real plus: my room looked over the common, and there’s a pretty path down through it into town. The place itself is an older, tired building, though my room was clean and quiet, and the staff were friendly and efficient. I paid £30 for a double on Friday, which was fantastic value. Parking costs less than £6 for 24 hours and seemed worth it, though there’s free parking on the opposite road.

I didn’t feel safe or comfortable staying there on my own. After seeing the room, I went back to reception because it was shocking: the bathroom was old, dirty and yellow, and there were stains on the bed, its base and the carpet. I’d booked for a work stay and was lucky not to have paid for parking before deciding to leave. It’s a two-star place, but I still expected more from a well-known brand like Travelodge. The outside also looks very worn and badly in need of restoration. They didn’t offer a refund, so I had to pay for somewhere else myself.

The evening menu really needs work. Update the adult menu, add pasta to the kids’ menu, and make the food a bit more exciting. The staff are absolutely lovely and should make people feel welcome, but the menu lets them down.

This is a lovely old building, and the dining area with its cafe bar is nice too. The food was really good, and my room was beautifully warm. I booked a dog-friendly room, which made quick trips out to the lawn for wees and poos easy. One night was a bit noisy, so hopefully tonight will be quieter. You get what you pay for, but I do recommend staying here.
