The building is fascinating and full of history, with far more character than a chain hotel. We stayed in the off-season, and the owner was very accommodating. The rooms were clean and nice, though a little cold for that time of year. There was a fan heater available that kept ours warm. The food and drinks were good too. A great stop if you’re planning a local hike.

I needed somewhere to sleep after getting lost on my drive to Aberystwyth for a grad school program. I found the place on booking.com and called, then arrived at a building older than the country I came from. It reminded me of my grandparents’ ancient home in Canada. The stay was delightful, and I got the good night’s sleep I badly needed. It was exactly the rest I was looking for.

Minffordd Hotel is right at the foot of Cadair Idris, a lovely stop for walkers and tired travellers. We’d spent the day hiking there when our car broke down nearby. With no phone signal and the recovery time repeatedly pushed later into the night, we were stranded for seven hours. By sheer luck we found the hotel, and Gordon turned what could have been a nightmare into an inconvenience. He welcomed us warmly and let us wait there for recovery. Once the evening guests had left, he sat with us and offered refreshments, amenities, and genuine company through a stressful evening. His kindness made all the difference, and we’re so grateful. The food is thoughtfully made from scratch and absolutely worth the wait. If you’re planning to eat, give advance notice, especially with a larger group. Whether you come for a meal or just a drink, Minffordd Hotel offers real heart as well as hospitality. Thank you, Gordon. You didn’t have to look out for us like that, but you did. The world could use more people like you.

We stopped in after a day in the mountains for a few beers and a meal. The service was good, and the food was excellent. I’d definitely recommend eating here, especially the lamb burger. There’s outdoor seating with a beautiful view. We didn’t stay overnight, so I can’t comment on the rooms.

The owner was so lovely when we stopped for tea and a pint. It’s a wonderful location, and I’d love to come back 😁
