The location is good for the centre, and the facade, lobby and rooms all look pretty neat. But I got barely two or three hours' sleep because the room next to mine was rowdy. Adults swearing and running down the corridor at 0300? Grow up. I can't speak for all the staff, but the front-of-house gent with glasses gave me possibly the least welcoming reception I've had, and I've been around a bit. The young guy at the bar, on the other hand, was happy to chat. Swap their positions and customers would have a much better experience. I was here on a business trip. Save some money and go to a Premier Inn instead.

Awful place. I asked about the travel cot five times, even though it had been requested when I booked before arrival. At first I understood that people forget, then they said they'd bring it up. Half an hour later, still nothing. I went downstairs three more times and nobody sorted it out. My child is one, and I don't co-sleep, so my anxiety meant I didn't sleep at all. We left early in the morning because I didn't want to be there. When I contacted the property afterwards, they wouldn't do anything or take responsibility. Booking.com apologised on their behalf. Shocking behaviour, and not even a sorry.

The location is probably the hotel's only good point. We were three people sharing two rooms and spent one night there, thank god. The sewage smell in the first room was unbearable, so there was no way we could stay in it overnight. The bed was uncomfortable, the heating didn't work, and it was a very cold night. They provided a heater instead of another room. We raised it at checkout, but didn't feel it was worth our time. It was only one night, after all. We won't stay there again.

Breakfast was poor and definitely not worth £13. The scrambled eggs were very dry, the bacon tasted odd, and the fruit selection was very limited and didn't seem fresh. We'd come from another northern city where we'd stayed at the Hampton at Hilton and had a much better complimentary breakfast. We also had to defend vouchers we'd legitimately bought for one day's breakfast and a coffee entitlement voucher issued by reception. They were eventually accepted, but it was embarrassing to make our case for something we'd paid for. The superior package was more expensive than the standard one and should have included daily free bottles of water, biscuits, and one daily illy coffee per guest. We had to ask for those extras on two of our three days. Reception did provide them after we showed our booking details, but the staff didn't seem familiar with the package. Housekeeping twice interrupted us just before 10am, although checkout was 11am. This was over the festive period, when we wouldn't expect a late room departure to be usual. I was surprised that the cleaning window was supposedly 9am to 5pm, even for guests staying several nights. At other hotels I've stayed in, housekeeping usually starts at checkout or earlier only after a guest has left early. When we asked them to come back later, they said they couldn't. Once, they added that they had other rooms to clean. The room cleaning that did happen was cursory. They changed the towels, emptied the bins, and barely tucked the duvet in. The desk was sticky and there were bits on the floor, so it didn't look as if they'd wiped the desk or hoovered. The heating instructions in the room were wrong. When we asked for help switching on the heating, a staff member told us to ignore the instructions on the wall. Leaving known incorrect instructions on display, instead of replacing them, gives a poor impression. Reception staff were pleasant enough, but seemed to be fighting a difficult battle with what looked like insufficient training. There also didn't seem to be enough staff on duty: on the day we ate breakfast at the hotel, just one server was covering breakfast alone. For a supposedly 4 star hotel, the quality and standards we experienced didn't match the description. After three nights from new year's eve, my partner and I have serious doubts about staying there again.
