The Hollies Inn

The roast itself was very good, especially the meat, potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. The cabbage and carrots, though, were overcooked and mushy. We had to add sides to build out the meal: cauliflower cheese cost another £2.50, and the stuffing balls were another £2.50. Although we were told they were homemade, the stuffing came in a pot and clearly hadn't been mixed properly, like a packet mix.

The old building has lovely features and some stunning furniture, which give this pub hotel plenty of charm. The location worked perfectly for my visit, and the rooms were spacious and nice. From reception through breakfast, the service was friendly. There was a fabulous choice at breakfast, too.

For a four-star place, I expected at least a decent bed. The mattress was thin and springy, and the pillows were horrible and cheap. In the bathroom, the floor shifted underfoot, the mirror was oddly high, and the sink's hot tap didn't work.

A warm, homely place with good prices for food and drinks. The beer is very well kept, and the staff are great. Lovely pub and good people.
