After Cathy moved us, the room was spotless and tidy, with clean bedding, plenty of tea, coffee and milk, and reception could provide more. There were wrapped plastic cups and tissues in the bathroom, which was better than in some higher rated hotels. Cathy was polite, professional, and very apologetic about the first room, though I suspect she had to make some changes to get the replacement ready. That first room was appalling: mould on the ceilings, a ripped chair, a filthy TV remote, hairs in the plughole, a dirty bathroom floor, and even a peanut under the bedside unit. Parking was a one minute walk away because the route from the car park was pedestrianised. As we were leaving, we saw what looked like a cleaner washing cups and spoons in a room with a towel. We expect crockery to go through a dishwasher, so I’d recommend bringing your own cups. Three out of five overall.

The room was okay, but it smelled strongly of detergent. The cups for tea were tiny, and the Yorkshire teabags tasted awful. There weren’t any spare blankets either. And don’t be fooled by the advert. Breakfast isn’t included. You’re given a £10 voucher that you have to buy for £7.50, to spend at McDonald’s or Costa. It feels like a scam.

You get free parking, and the desk staff were friendly. It’s a basic room in a basic motorway services hotel, with the services just 30 yards away for a 24 hour shop and plenty of food choices. It’s on the westbound side of the M25, though, so to head east, for example to Sevenoaks, you first have to drive five miles west.

We didn’t know quite what to expect, but ended up feeling completely relaxed and happy here. The staff were so friendly and helpful, a real credit to the company, and the grounds were lovely for people watching. The location was great for our August trip to Hever Castle, and we stayed two nights. The bed was lovely and comfortable. We were very happy with the hotel and would definitely stay again. Heaven under a duvet. The bed was really comfortable and high enough to get in and out of easily. The rooms had loads of space, towels and extra pillows, and were clean, even the kettle. And thank you for the Clipper teabags. Reception staff were helpful, there was plenty of parking, and the services had a good choice of food. Well done, Days inn.
