East Farm House B&B

The house has a memorable, fun feel to it, though it might not be for everyone. The decor is intense and very old fashioned, but I found it quirky and interesting. The rooms were clean and comfortable. I found the host a little unfriendly, and at breakfast she kept asking whether we wanted sausages and bacon even after we’d told her several times we were vegetarian. She also didn’t provide gluten free bread, although we’d given advance notice. Breakfast ran from 8.30 to 9am, which suited us, but keep that in mind if you have a different schedule.

After a terrible first night at another hotel, the friendly host here felt like a welcome relief. She got the fire going to dry our poor boots. We were on a walking holiday for our anniversary, and this was the second day of our walk. The farmhouse is furnished in keeping with its period. Our room had everything we needed: a comfy bed, hot drink making facilities and a wonderful power shower in the en suite. There’s a handy pub across the road for a well deserved beer. We woke to the sounds of the countryside, then had a wonderful breakfast to set us up for another day of walking. I’d highly recommend it and would definitely stay again if needed.

The house is beautiful, and the rooms are clean and tidy, if a little over furnished. The host was friendly and welcoming. But the dogs in the house barked incessantly, which was a constant irritant. We’d booked before a charity event and had to get up early the next day. We were told they couldn’t provide breakfast for us, other than leaving cereal and milk out. I’m lactose intolerant, so I had to go without. It could have been such a nice stay, but hours of listening to barking dogs definitely spoiled it.

The owner was pleasant and friendly, and cooked one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in a long time. Even in the middle of winter, the room was perfectly warm, thanks to an extra heater alongside the radiator. We couldn’t get our TV to work, though our friends in the room next door said theirs was fine, so that was probably down to us. There are ducks, chickens and horses all over outside by the car park, so drive carefully. Inside can feel a little creepy, especially with the china dolls in the bedroom. My husband loved the look, but all the ornaments, dolls and decor can be overpowering. There are things hanging on every wall and objects on every surface, so it’s not a place for clumsy people or anyone who likes minimalism. It was ok for one night.
