The Cumberland

Mark, the owner, was so friendly and welcoming, and there were thoughtful touches all over the hotel. We had plenty of extra towels, little sweet treats, bottled drinking water and even binoculars in the drawer. Breakfast was delicious and well prepared, and the hot shower felt great after a long day. There was some road noise from the busy seafront between 10:00 and midnight, and the beds could have been more comfortable. Those were minor drawbacks, though. I had a lovely stay at the Cumberland Hotel and would recommend it for a warm welcome and all the attention to detail.

The Cumberland was perfectly placed for our trip to Weymouth, with the beach just across the road and the town centre, harbour, station and attractions all within a 5-10 minute walk. There are lots of places to eat nearby, especially around the harbour. We had a lovely seafood meal at Seabeats seafood restaurant near the hotel. The hosts were kind and friendly, and breakfast was excellent, with cereals, juice, fruit, yoghurt and hot food made to order. Our family of three stayed for a weekend. Booking online was easy, and it was cheaper to book directly with the hotel than through third party sites. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The family room had a double bed, a single bed and a sofa bed, plus an en suite with bath and shower, tea, coffee and a kettle. It was hot in the summer, and there was no fan, though the window opened. Parking nearby gets very busy, but the hotel kindly provides permits for guests to use the bays at no cost. There are short term and residents’ spaces around the hotel. We really enjoyed the trip, and the Cumberland was a perfect base.

Mark gave us a warm welcome, and the room was very clean. It’s in a great location, and breakfast had lots of choice. A fridge would have been useful, especially that weekend. The shower was harder to use, as adjusting the temperature was difficult. Still, we had a lovely stay.

Mark and Claire were perfect hosts, and breakfast was excellent. The rooms are modern and very clean, and they smell nice as soon as you walk in. The train station and bus station are only minutes away. A really great place to stay, couldn’t ask for anything more.
