The Station Inn

The pub’s atmosphere is banging, a good place for music and a chat, and the staff were pleasant and friendly. It’s an old building, so you have to give and take a little, and we still enjoyed our stay in Whitby. There’s no breakfast or food at the pub. We stayed in the executive room in the attic, reached by very slim, steep stairs that were awkward to use, especially with bags. The room was dusty on some surfaces. We had a do not disturb sign on the door, but a bloke still walked in to clean while my wife was getting ready. Luckily, the bedroom door was pulled to. None of the doors had catches, not even the bathroom, so we had to wedge a shoe behind it for a little privacy. Thank you anyway.

Right opposite the railway and bus interchange, this is a great little pub. The friendly staff made us feel welcome.

We spent two nights here over New Year. If you want a lively bar, friendly staff and a good beer selection, I’d recommend it as a pub. Staying upstairs was another matter, though. It was New Year’s Eve, and some might say that’s what you should expect, but the noise in our room until 2PM was extraordinary. Earplugs didn’t help; we could feel the sound vibrating through the furniture and our bodies. If you like pubs and stay up until the bitter end, it could be right for you. But if you go up to your room after the night’s over for you and hope to get some respite, think it through more carefully than we did.
