Hotel Continental

The buffet breakfast was very nice, and the food was excellent. Staff were polite and friendly. My room was laid out well, very clean, and had everything I needed for the stay. A beautiful hotel right next to the beach. I’d highly recommend staying here.

We had lunch from the buffet, and everyone enjoyed it. Lisa and the team were brilliant while I organised an event for 45 people, nothing was too much trouble. Some of us stayed overnight too, and the rooms were spotlessly clean with very comfy beds. Breakfast the next day was just as good as the buffet. Thanks so much to Lisa, the two Lukes, Tabitha and her colleague.

Whitstable is a great place to visit, and I know it well. Our room, number 5, had a great view, heating, a small balcony and enough refreshments. The staff were friendly overall, and Katrina at reception was lovely. We paid £270 for two nights with breakfast. There’s free parking behind the hotel on a first-come basis, and paid parking out front. We loved the break and were looking at dates to return until checkout. Walking to the car park, a female cleaner stopped us and asked whether we’d seen the “white soap dish.” It turned out to be some kind of black tray. We went back in to ask if it had been found. I said politely that I wasn’t sure what she meant, and she repeated “white dish / black tray.” I told her no, we’d left the room as we found it. She replied, “WELL IT WAS THERE YESTERDAY.” I was furious and went back inside to say that was unacceptable. How dare they imply we’d taken something? There was no apology, just a shrug. It left a bad taste after a break that had been a respite following an illness. I wouldn’t have brought this up otherwise, but the bedside light didn’t work either. At 21:30 I went to ask about it, eventually got a bulb, and changed it myself, even though someone had offered to do it. The bulbs and lights were badly dusty, as were the cupboards. I’m only mentioning these things now because of how a staff member confronted us in the car park. Don’t pay £135 a night. Wait until the last minute and check booking.com for a much cheaper price, or consider somewhere else that won’t insinuate you’re thieves.

A really good traditional British seaside hotel, with very nice, clean rooms and free parking at the back. The service was very friendly, and breakfast was excellent. I’d thoroughly recommend it to anyone staying in Whitstable, which is well worth a visit.
