Even with my train running late, the owner waited up past 11pm to let me in and was really kind and helpful. The sheets were a bit dirty, though the bed was comfortable. I missed breakfast, but the locally baked biscuits were a lovely extra. Great value.

The harbour view is stunning, and Keith and Virginia are great hosts. Breakfast was much better than what you get at most American hotels. We came at a cold time of year, so needed a space heater and the heated towel racks to stay warm. I’ll definitely come back when I can.

I stayed in room #2 in February 2026, and I’d read the older reviews before booking. A lot of them from two or three years ago raised the same issues, but the more recent ones seemed happier. After my stay, I’d say book it. I’ve done 18 man hostels and £400 rooms, and this B&B is nowhere near the bottom of the scale. It’s an older place with some wear, but my room wasn’t filthy or rundown. The view was a big part of the appeal. I watched the sunrise over the harbour with breakfast, and room #2 faces the harbour from the street entrance. The room was large, with a bed bigger than I expected, a bathroom, wardrobe, TV, little table by the window, and a hairdryer. There was also a self service tea and coffee station with plenty of choices and condiments. The bed was comfortable, the sheets and towels were clean, and the surfaces were clean too. No bad or musty smell, and the heat was kept at a comfortable level. Virginia and Keith were lovely. Virginia showed me around the room and suggested places to go. You choose breakfast from a sheet for either 0730 or 0900. Mine arrived right at 0730, with the hot food on a hot plate, and there was plenty for one. The shower was warm and had decent pressure for an older building. There’s some older mold under the grout, some rust, and some dust, though I enjoyed the stay. It’s an older building, but the rate was one of the best in town. The bed, view and well stocked tea and coffee area made me happy, and I’d happily stay a few days. I was only there one night. My only issue was down to another guest. Their dog barked whenever someone moved outside the room, and the owner hardly tried to settle it. The place seems to accept dogs, so that might be a deal breaker for some. For me, nothing I saw justified a one or two star review. Whatever problems there were a few years back seem to have been addressed. It’s about a 10 min walk from most food places, and I felt safe walking around alone at about 10pm. I’d stay again, and it was well worth the price to me.

There are great harbour views, and breakfast was delivered to the room and was amazing. The room was massive, with great amenities, including tea and coffee and some lovely shortbread. The hospitality was amazing too. Just know there are two flights of stairs to reach the rooms.

Our room looked out over the harbour, though I’m not sure every room gets that view. The building has some history, and the owner gave us a warm welcome. The facilities were good for the space, with a small table, stools and a Tassimo machine. The bathroom was modern and clean, though you could see traces of older sealant. Having breakfast brought to the room was a novelty. It was decent quality, but a little overcooked on our one try.
