The room was spotless and looked out at the river Wick flowing beside the hotel. The bar was clean too, and the young lady serving was really pleasant. All the staff were so helpful, and nothing seemed like too much trouble. I felt completely comfortable here and would book Mackays again if I’m delivering a vehicle in the area. It’s an obviously old hotel, but don’t let that put you off. I got a lovely welcome, and it’s well placed for the town centre or trips to John-o-Groats and Thurso, around 20 miles away. I didn’t eat at the restaurant because someone recommended a local Fish & Chip Shop, which was well worth a visit. I’ve taken off a star because room No15 had no hot water. When I told reception, they gave me another room straight away and said I could move when it suited me. Maybe that’s harsh, but it was an issue.

We only came in for lunch, not an overnight stay. The meal was lovely and the staff were really friendly. We’ll definitely come back.

While touring the NC500, we stopped here on a recommendation from the owners of Wick River Campsite, where we were staying. We had our 13 yr old spring spaniel with us, and the owners kindly made room for us to have drinks and dinner in the bar, even though it was fully booked. Everyone was lovely. We both ordered the lamb, which was delicious, made with high quality produce and presented like something from a top London hotel. And that sticky toffee pudding was the best we’ve ever had. I’m still thinking about it.

The restaurant food was a real highlight, and everyone on staff was friendly. My room was clean too. I really enjoyed staying here and would recommend it if you’re in Wick.

The room was comfortable and clean, but the window kept banging all night. It was in the middle of a storm, though. We were here for the first night of our NC500 trip, and the staff were very friendly. Dinner was delicious, breakfast decent, and we’d stay again.
