The duck confit was a real standout, though we enjoyed every dish. The wine was good and service polite. The dining room is beautifully put together, with lovely memorabilia on the old pub facade. For this quality of food, it was very reasonable value. A real treat.

This is one of my favourite pubs, so whenever I’m in Winchester I try to pop in, even if it’s only for a quick drink. They have my favourite beer, Gales HSB (Horndean Special Brew), and it’s kept really well and served at the perfect temperature. Have a look at the old school desks from the public school next door, now repurposed for the pub.

Everything on the plate was spot on, right down to the roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. I’ve had few Sunday roasts as good as the one we ate at The Wykeham Arms. The chicken was beautifully cooked and full of flavour, while the beef was tender, rich and just right. The atmosphere was fantastic and the service second to none. We’ll definitely be back!

We had a wonderful stay in Winchester. The accommodation at Wykeham Arms was just right, with plush furnishings and lots of nice touches, and the old pub itself is beautiful. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Breakfast had loads of choices and was delicious. The Cathedral is only a few minutes’ easy walk away, and the location is perfect for exploring central Winchester.

We stayed two nights over Valentine’s weekend and really enjoyed it. The hotel is right in the heart of Winchester by the cathedral, and breakfast was impressive. We had lunch there too. The only downside was that the room creaked a bit, though with a building this old that’s to be expected. I’d highly recommend it for a Winchester visit.
