The evening meal was faultless. I had the steak, cooked perfectly, and the fish cakes were also on our table. The menu had options for most dietary needs, and the staff were attentive and engaging. The bar is well stocked, with lighter meals and pizzas from their own clay oven, and the team there were excellent too. It’s centrally located, though there’s no parking on site. There is free parking about five minutes away. From outside, you wouldn’t guess how warm and welcoming it feels inside.

We’d eaten here twice in recent weeks, so this Sunday we tried the roast. It was so good, full of flavour with lovely vegetables, and the chicken was really succulent. The puddings are always divine. The staff are lovely, chatty and very happy to help. I’d highly recommend it, especially for a Sunday meal.

The Blue Boar looks and feels as though it should offer much better food, which made our family visit last week such a shame. The produce was poor, the salad tasted old, and several dishes were watery and lacking flavour. We were also charged £1.50 for condiments that seemed to have been microwaved, which was very odd and not what you’d expect. There seemed to be little care or pride from the kitchen, and the food showed it. The standard just didn’t match the setting.

I dropped in for lunch with a friend and her adult son, and there was something on the menu for everyone. The food was delicious and clearly freshly cooked by an expert chef. The staff were incredibly friendly, accommodating and generous with their hospitality. I’d highly recommend a visit.

We had a lovely Wednesday afternoon in a cosy setting, with really good food and service. The restaurant is attached to the hotel and sits right in the centre of town, and the facilities make the place appealing. One small thing could be better: the hand dryers in the washrooms are ineffective, and it takes ages to dry your hands.
