The hotel bar being open 24/7 meant we stayed up longer than planned and overslept past checkout, but the receptionist took it in good humour and we had a laugh about it. Booking online and checking in half an hour later was quick, friendly and easy. The room and bathroom were clean and spacious, the beds were very comfortable, and all the staff were friendly.

The evening meal was a tasty set three-course menu, with the usual roast, fish and vegetarian choices. Staff were amazing when we asked to change our filthy room, and they moved us. The beds looked new and the sheets were clean. But the pool was empty, which was disappointing in 30+ degree heat, and drinks were expensive, nearly £10 each. We had a broken shower, so cold was the only option, though the freezing water was refreshing in that heat. The hotel walls echoed, and we may have been near the stairs: doors banged and footsteps carried all night. At 7am, a woman got stuck in her room and staff were banging and shouting to get her out. Cheap and basic, but okay for one night.

Every member of staff we met was helpful and courteous, always smiling. The chef was cheerful and chatty, and the night staff were brilliant when my wife had a medical issue. A huge thanks from both of us. Our large double room had a very good bed, though it was a bit hard for my liking. The decor was very dated, with tiger-print wallpaper, grubby off-white paint especially around the light switches, and no toilet brush. It was also extremely warm, though the radiator was off and I don't know where the heat came from. Downstairs was clean, bright and airy, but the corridors felt dark and dingy, with grey walls, missing step guards, and no lifts at all. We'd stay again and would recommend the hotel.

The afternoon tea was lovely, and the tea and coffee kept getting topped up. They even gave the mum-to-be a card and a free mocktail, a really nice touch. The restaurant is beautiful and the service was outstanding. We booked it for a baby shower, and the staff were accommodating from the early planning stages, never making a fuss even as we changed our plans. On the day, they went above and beyond and took care of everything we needed. Would definitely recommend this place.

The staff were lovely, and breakfast was excellent. I liked the mix of old and new in the place, too. But dinner was disappointing: I had steak and my partner ordered chicken, which was incredibly dry with no sauce to help. The frozen chips were still uncooked, and the mushrooms were awful.\n\nMy room was tiny and in the old section. It had no air conditioning, felt stifling, and the window wouldn't open. It was beside a fire door at the top of the stairs, and the floorboards creaked. The bathroom was cramped, and the bed uncomfortable.\n\nI'd like to say I would stay again because of the staff, but after this visit I'd probably look elsewhere.
