Ramada Plaza Wrexham

Calling this one Rainbows over Ramada. I was in Wrexham for a British Master Tennis Tournament at the nearby Wrexham Tennis Centre, and the hotel worked out really well. I booked partly for the little gym so I could prepare for matches, and partly for the food, which could be made to order and adapted for competition. One night I finished late after the main restaurant had closed, and they brought the available food up to my room with a smile. There’s plenty of parking, and the room was spacious and clean, with a generous, fast-flowing shower and a bath to soak in. Easy, comfortable and lovely. I’ll definitely return.

Getting to Wrexham and the surrounding area was easy from here, but I wouldn’t choose to stay again. Some of the electrical fittings were loose: part of the desk lamp fell off when I used it, the light by the door came away from its fitting and hung loose, and the bedside lamp was loose too. I also noticed cracks in the conference room ceilings. The sink only gave hot water after I ran the bath’s hot tap. Breakfast was limited and lacklustre compared with other hotels I’ve used. Luckily work was paying, because otherwise I’d have felt short-changed. This didn’t feel like a four-star stay.

A good stay, with a decent-sized room and some complimentary chocolate and drinks. The food was generally good too. Have a look at the breakfast menu, there are some good choices beyond the usual buffet.

If you need to sleep, beware of booking when there’s a function. They advertise that functions are held, but don’t warn you about a party downstairs from your room. The sound carries so clearly you can hear every lyric, and when I asked what time it would end, they lied. Customer service and comfort were completely absent, and nothing in the rooms works.
