Matt was great about keeping in touch before we arrived, and made us feel very welcome. We had a big table with a couple of dogs, plus some quite specific dietary needs, and everyone was well catered for. The food was excellent, with clean plates all round, and the service was lovely in such a cosy setting. We’ll definitely be back.

That brown sugar custard tart alone is tempting me back. Dinner here was superb: the dishes were hearty and delicious, with little creative touches throughout. The place has loads of character, and the service stayed lovely even while it was busy. It’s also really close to Plymouth.

The lamb roast was absolutely delicious, and the red wine we chose was lovely too. I came with my family for my birthday roast yesterday, and they really looked after us. It was warm and cosy inside, with the fires going and a very kind welcome. Thanks for making it such a great day for us. We’ll definitely return :)

The staff are brilliant, there’s a great choice of beers, wines and spirits, and the food is a real gastronomic delight at fantastic prices. I’d especially say to try the brown sugar tart with plumbs and quince. The chef is a down to Manchester ex pat with superlative cooking skills. Oak beams, log fires, and a wonderful atmosphere make this place a real gem. The location is amazing too. If you can find it, go. You won’t be disappointed.

We didn’t eat here, though the menu looked amazing and a little expensive for us. The bar is quite compact, with more direct to eat. It’s a beautiful 16th century pub, quirky inside and full of historic charm, with a warm welcome and plenty of drinks to choose from. There’s a good range of beers and ciders as well as spirits. The pub sits in a quaint spot with a brook running past it. Access is narrow, as are the roads around here, so drive slowly and you’ll be fine. There’s plenty of parking behind the pub. It seems like a close village, and we saw all kinds of clients, from families to farmers.
