The central location is great, and there are lots of good restaurants within walking distance. Breakfast caters well for gluten free, but the evening menu was less inspiring. Parking was poor: it wasn’t clear that valet parking had to be booked, or that the lack of an option to book it on the website meant it was full. The room was comfortable enough.

The location feels special because the hotel is right in front of a lovely Castle. You can sit in the café with tea and see it through the window. It’s close to the centre and tourist attractions, easy to reach from the station, and in a nice walkable area. The rooms were really nice and clean, with clean smelling sheets, mirror, and toilet seat. I’m a big germaphobe, though, and would like Hilton to confirm whether these things are cleaned every time: the TV remote, doorknob, telephone, hangers, light switch, curtains, window handles, chairs, bed frame, walls, especially bathroom walls, showerhead, and bath handles. I loved the breakfast, with a good mix of hot and continental food, and nice tea. The staff were helpful. We ordered room service breakfast one day and it was great to choose from the menu and hang our choices outside the door. We wanted breakfast in the room so we could sleep longer, though, and a staff member called at 9 am to check if we still wanted it, which was annoying. Room service was otherwise amazing. Staff brought extra toiletries, and they brought our dinner inside the room, which was great. One day when we went down for breakfast, our assigned table was poorly set, so we had to get cutlery and condiments from other tables. We ordered dinner by phone at 11, which is very late, and the only option was margarita pizza. That’s fair given the time, but since the hotel advertises 24/7 room service, it might consider more late night dinner choices. £10 for two small bottles of Coke is unjustifiable. The bathroom hand cream and hair conditioner were thoughtful little touches that suggest care for quality service. I know not every hotel in this country has a room fridge, but this is Hilton, surely they can afford one. Also, the toilet roll holder was poorly designed and the roll kept falling off. Even with those issues, the stay was lovely and worth paying a little extra for. Lovely staff, nice location, and nice rooms. Please get back to me about my questions, thank you!

Hilton York, 1 Tower Street The location is hard to beat for a York visit. Step around the side of the hotel and you’re in the city centre, with JORVIK Viking Centre about 100 metres away, Fairfax House roughly 50 metres away, and Clifford’s Tower right by the hotel. There are plenty of bars, restaurants, and shops nearby. We visit York a few times a year and would stay here again for the location, comfortable rooms, and solid amenities. Our room was spotless and well appointed, with an amazing view of Clifford’s Tower. The hotel has a modern classic style and is clearly well maintained. The bar was modern and comfortable, and breakfast was a highlight: a large buffet and a chef making eggs to order. Service was friendly and helpful, and everything we needed was handled without fuss, though it could have been a little sharper and more responsive at times. For parking, the on-site valet is the easiest and best value option. There’s no self parking at the hotel, and the nearby Castle car park is expensive. Highly recommended.

The suite was lovely and clean, with all the amenities you’d need, and the location was perfect. The restaurant staff were helpful and lovely, though the food could definitely be better. The room walls are paper thin, so you hear everything. Unfortunately, be ready for little sleep until the sun comes up and the partying stops.

My husband booked this for my birthday because we were going to see Jodie Comer in Prima Facie. The play was brilliant, but the accommodation and general service were sadly lacking. Our balcony room had a great view of the Tower, but we hadn’t counted on the person or people above us moving furniture around in the middle of the night. The bed was about as comfortable as sleeping on nails. Also, don’t expect to get a drink after 11pm unless you order a bottle. Nobody told us about that when we put £100 credit on the bar at check-in. I’d been so looking forward to the trip, so it was sad that it didn’t turn out as special as I’d hoped.
