Abilene Inn & Suites

The room smelled bad, the box spring was stained brown, and there were holes in the walls. It felt unsanitary and unsafe. The toilet hadn't been cleaned or even flushed, with human waste still in it, and the towels hadn't been changed after the previous guest. There was no soap either. At check-in, the staff were rude and unwelcoming, and handed me a makeshift key holder made of construction paper and tape. That should have been my first warning. This was one of the worst and most disgusting hotel experiences I've had. These are serious hygiene and health concerns, and a room in that condition should never be rented. Corporate should inspect this property, and possibly the health department too. I'd strongly recommend staying somewhere else.

The two women working were responsive and nice, but that was the only good part of my stay. The hot tub was colder than the pool, and the so-called free hot breakfast was just biscuits and gravy plus a toaster station, with no eggs, meat, or potatoes. The coffee came from a 12-cup drip pot and was already gone when we arrived at 7:30. Our room wasn't fully ready because all the janitorial staff had walked out the day before. The beds were made, but we had to get our own towels, and the carpets hadn't been vacuumed. It seems like cheap or negligent senior management is behind the problems. The hotel has potential if someone would keep it up, treat staff better, and pay attention to the standards for the class and price they claim to offer. I'd stay in Junction City or pay a bit more for the Holiday Inn across the street. Skip this place until the price drops or management brings it up to snuff.

The one decent thing was that the shower got hot and had good pressure. The room we first checked into was dirty, so we switched rooms. That hallway smelled awful, like garbage that had been sitting for a week. There was black mold in the bathroom and along a wallpaper seam from floor to ceiling. No hand soap was provided at the sink, and we were told to use the shower soap. The shower dripped all night, and there was tissue stuck in the peephole.

The A/C worked well, and thankfully we only had to stay one night. The hallway smelled like urine, cigarettes, and a pet store. The rooms were disgusting: mold in the bathroom, hairs in the tub that weren't ours, dirty towels, stained sheets, and cracker crumbs all over a floor that looked like it hadn't been vacuumed for days. Wallpaper was peeling right off the walls. We asked whether our key would open the doors from the parking lot and were told the locks didn't work, so there was no need to worry. So much for security.
