Days Inn by Wyndham Abilene

I paid $130 for a dirty room. There was broken glass on the floor, filth built up in the spots that don’t get regularly used, and a very unhealthy looking stain near the top of the bed protector. I hesitated to leave a review, but I’m glad I checked the room over or my feet could have been cut up pretty badly. Little motels like this used to be affordable and clean. Now they don’t get cleaned properly, whether that’s on housekeeping or management, and the dirtbags who stay in them seem even worse than they used to.

The beds were nice, but we had trouble with the keys and cockroaches in the room. When I reported the bugs, they said there was nothing they could do. Breakfast could have been better, and we had trouble with the toilet and the outdated rooster are.

The woman who checked me in was the best part of the stay, she was so sweet. The room itself was dated, with carpet that was lifting and torn, and the whole bathroom needed new caulking. I had to hold the faucet while pulling the lever to turn on the shower. The toilet shook so much I kept expecting it to tip over. After dinner I found a roach in the bathroom. When I called to complain, they said they’d let management know, but that it happens because it was on the first floor. Wish I could post pictures.

The location was decent, with lots of fast food places within walking distance, and the lobby had lovely furniture and an almost museum-like feel. That gave me hope for the room, especially at the price, but the contrast was pretty stark. It’s an old hotel, and it shows everywhere except the lobby. There were big scratches on one wall, a floor lamp leaning against a table with no chairs, and a desk chair that was broken and dangerous to sit on. I had to flush the toilet at least twice every time. The bed was okay. Would I stay again? Only if I had to. There’s a Hampton Inn directly across the street, though it costs twice as much.
