Holiday Inn Express & Suites Abilene by IHG

There was apparently a sewer backup or leak on 1/30/26, and they weren’t telling guests, so people didn’t know. I stay at hundreds of IHGs a year. This is disgusting and shameful. If guests get sick and end up in the hospital from raw sewer gases without knowing, hopefully they put two and two together. Here’s just one room I walked into. Let’s see what corporate says.

The hotel cancelled my reservation on the day I was due to arrive, despite my having booked it ten days ahead. I travel for business every week and have Diamond status with IHG and Hilton. I called the hotel repeatedly, every half hour for three hours, and no one answered. IHG Diamond customer service booked the reservation, but the hotel cancelled it. When I finally reached a staff member, she was unpleasant. Staff and management were rude and very unprofessional. The breakfast area was dirty, the food overcooked, and there were roaches. Rooms need updating and cleaning, with black mold around the shower and sink. I don’t recommend this location. Stay away from this Holiday Inn Express.

The room was very clean, the bed comfortable, and despite the busy area, no outside noise came through. My one complaint is breakfast. The biscuits and gravy were great, but the only egg choice was premade vegetable egg white omelets, and the sausage links could have cooked a little longer.

For $283 a night, I’d look somewhere else. The front desk seemed new to check-ins, and it took a long time. The lobby and elevator need cleaning and updating. My room was in rough shape: the fire alarm was missing, the pillows were stained, the toilet was backed up, and there was a strange smell. I travel a lot for work and have stayed in plenty of questionable places, and this one was no different. I left after only 30 minutes, but they still charged me for the night.
