Hampton Inn Abingdon

Jennifer at the front desk made our midnight arrival on the drive from DC to MS feel easy. Since we hadn't booked ahead, she helped us get the best rate, and as gold members we could choose snacks and drinks. Get the VA peanuts. The hotel and room were clean, though both could use a bit of a refresh. The beds were comfortable enough for me, even though I usually sleep on an extra-firm memory foam mattress. The AC's white noise and blackout shades made it easy to sleep, and I was glad I could run downstairs for toothpaste and a comb after forgetting to pack them. I'd stay here again.

We slept really well, and the rooms were nice, with cool air and accent lighting along the ceiling. The beds and pillows were comfy, though the shower pressure was a little weak. Breakfast had a tasty variety, but with the hotel nearly full around 7 pm, the person serving it struggled to refill empty dishes. It's in a very safe area, less than a mile from the Creeper Trail for biking or walking. I love this town and Hampton Inns, and I'd come back.

We found the rate far too high for this area, and the smoky smell outside our room was a problem because I have bad allergies. My husband and I both raised it the next morning with Sheri at the front desk. She was extremely rude, offered no help, and basically accused us of making it up. We felt terribly treated, and the customer service was awful. I wouldn't recommend this hotel. There are nicer, much cheaper places nearby.

Getting to the hotel from I-81 was easy, and despite being visible from the interstate, I didn't hear highway noise in my room. It was clean, comfortable, lovely, and well stocked, and they greeted us with a warm cookie. The outdoor pool is small and only five feet deep at its deepest, but that didn't bother us. There's also a modest workout room. Staff were all very friendly and helpful, and breakfast had plenty to choose from: juices, coffee, cereal, pastries, waffles, toast and bagels, plus hot dishes. We had eggs with cheese and ham and sausage gravy for biscuits. If you're short on time, there are several bagged breakfasts at the front desk to take along. Comfortable and convenient.
