Best Western Garden State Inn

We stayed at Green State Inn from May 14-17 in a two-queen room while attending basketball tournaments in Atlantic City. It worked for a few nights if you keep expectations realistic. The building shows its age, with paint patches and humidity damage in the bathroom, but the room was clean, the beds comfortable, and we saw no bugs or other concerns. Check-in was easy, parking plentiful, and the location about 15 minutes from Atlantic City. It wasn't too noisy despite the nearby road and airport. The non-smoking room still had an old cigarette smell when we walked in, though opening the window helped. WiFi was very slow and unreliable, so I mostly used my phone hotspot. Staff were okay but not especially welcoming. The shower head is low, which may mean taller people have to bend, and the sink pressure is so strong that water splashes everywhere if you turn it all the way on. There was also a $50 deposit that wasn't very clear during booking. Breakfast was basic grab-and-go food: cereal, plain bagels, mini muffins, juice, and coffee. Fine for sleeping, showering, and heading out in the morning, but don't expect anything fancy.

The setting was quiet and peaceful, and there was plenty of parking when I visited. For a budget-friendly inn, I'd recommend it to anyone who wants a quiet stay. I was there for a weekend getaway from NYC, and the room was decent and surprisingly clean, apart from a sink drainage problem that wasn't fixed. I reported it on the first day, but the clerk only looked at it, said something, and never came back. I had to keep pulling the stopper out by hand. The hot tub was definitely a plus. Customer service was just okay, nothing especially good or bad to say.

For one night in the room with a jacuzzi tub, we paid $218. Some parts of the room were damaged, and the free breakfast was lackluster. We went on Valentine's Day, so I figure it was unusually busy, with lots of couples in Atlantic City for the holiday. The water in the tub didn't stay hot for long, though I suspect that was because so many people were showering and bathing that night. It was still a decent place to stay, the bed was comfortable, and we felt safe.

Terrible visit. I've stayed here often because I used to think it was a good place, and I always kept my room clean. This time, when I asked for a better room, the front desk guy yelled and screamed at me. I thought he was having some kind of breakdown, and I felt I might need to call the police for my own protection. The customer service was bad, and I didn't feel respected or safe. I'll take my money somewhere I feel welcome. Don't stay here just because of the location. You've been warned.
