Empire Inn & Suites Atlantic City Absecon

The only reason I'm giving three stars is that the man at the front desk was nice. I'm local and needed somewhere to stay for the night before a funeral. The room was fairly clean, though the comforters had several cigarette burns, something I see around here a lot. It was freezing because the heater didn't work, and the TV was out too. There was no hot water for a shower, hair on the shower walls, and the tub wouldn't drain properly because it hadn't been cleaned out.

We got in around 8:30 at night, and when my boyfriend pulled back the quilts to check the bed, the blanket meant to keep us warm was covered in cigarette burns. He went downstairs to complain, but they said he had to take it up with housekeeping. It was cold, and all we wanted was to enjoy our weekend. It's sad how customers get treated sometimes. Smfh

I stayed here for 40 years and it used to be clean and friendly, in a good area. That's changed over time, and my most recent visit was my last. The place was filthy, and I was eaten alive by bed bugs. The same green rug has been there for over 30 years. There are no hangers or alarm clocks now. The owner stopped putting hangers out after homeless guests allegedly brought bed bugs and stole things when casinos shut during COVID and rooms were being given away for $10 a night. Even the cleaner who'd worked there for over 30 years quit because of the bugs. The owners aren't friendly, especially the wife, who's nasty and rude. There's no breakfast, the pool is closed, and the area has a lot of homeless people and doesn't feel very safe. I have no reason to lie. Stay away from this place and the other motels on that strip.

The outside of the motel looked very nice, and it was the cheapest place I found online. The husband and wife who worked there were friendly. I drove five hours and arrived at 1:30, but check-in wasn't until 3:00, and they charged a $40 early check-in fee. I understand that's their policy, though I wish they'd waived it. I usually bring my own sheets when staying somewhere unfamiliar, but these sheets were clean and the bathroom was okay. My one big regret was booking a smoking room to accommodate my husband, since I don't smoke. The smell was unbearable, so we checked out early. Maybe that was my own fault for not asking for nonsmoking.
