Adair Budget Inn

The clerk was nice and helped me right away, and the place is right off I-84 east. I’d been driving for 20 hours, so I was probably frazzled, but I got there at 11 pm and left five hours later without sleeping at all. The whole area and room felt like something from an M. KNIGHT SHAMALAN movie. I spread the bath towels over the bed and pillows, wrapped a scarf from my car around my head, pulled my hoodie tight, locked the door, wedged a chair in front of it, and lay there quietly with one hand on my phone and the other on a semi auto%@$*.

The room was so hot and damp that neither my ten-year-old nor I could sleep, even though we just wanted a few hours before getting back on the road. I tried leaving the door open as far as the bolt allowed since it was cooler outside, but that didn't help. My son was exhausted and started crying. I went to the office, where the owner rudely insisted the AC worked and wouldn't come see how hot the room was. She gave me keys to another room, but that AC didn't work either. She also refused a refund because we'd already been there a couple of hours. I packed up and left anyway. The Relax Inn in town was much nicer, clean and comfortable, with friendly staff and working AC, for only $20 more. The room had a dank, moldy smell, bugs that weren't bed bugs or roaches, paper-thin pillows, and painted cinder block walls that gave it a dungeon look. There were no outlets by the bed, so CPAP users need an extension cord or would have to turn around to sleep. The AC didn't work. I've never stayed in a motel this awful. Other reviews mention the same AC problem. Someone said to stay only if it's all you can afford, but I disagree. If it's the only option in your budget, you'd be better off sleeping in your vehicle at a rest stop, then you'd be more rested and wouldn't pay for a sleepless night in an uninhabitable room.

Getting there is easy since it's just off the highway, and you can park right by your room. The front desk was friendly and service was quick. But the room was sweltering when we arrived, the fridge and Wi-Fi didn't work, and we got just one washcloth. The bed was the most uncomfortable I've ever slept on. For the price, I guess it's what you'd expect, though at least we didn't see bed bugs or roaches.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and I felt safe in a clean, really nice room with a fridge and microwave. The AC took a little while to cool the room, but it kept it cool after that.
