The rooms in Godfrey Cottage were gorgeous, and there was plenty for couples and families to do around the property. We had a minor wasp problem in the private dining room, but staff moved us quickly. The main dining room was a little louder, though we still enjoyed ourselves. Jules was a highlight. Kris made the best Old Fashioned I’ve had in years and surprised our table with amazing dirty espresso martinis. Louis, the manager, checked on us several times to make sure things were going well. At Woodlands, the staff knew the menu well and suggested excellent wine pairings. They also made buttered noodles for our 3-year-old and found things to keep her occupied, which meant a lot to us. Everyone across the property was kind and attentive, and the grounds were beautifully kept. The golf course and putting green were first class, whether you’re there to play seriously or just for fun. We had an outstanding stay and are already looking forward to coming back.

The Saturday night dinner at Jules was the main event, with champagne, tasty passed appetizers, and a delicious meal from the talented chefs. We met some wonderful people and had a great time. Four James Beard-nominated chefs were in town, including Jules’ executive chef. We especially enjoyed talking with Duane Nutter, who signed our copy of “Cutting Up In The Kitchen.” We read it cover to cover in our well-appointed cottage, with a warm fire and Etta James playing. What a weekend. Earlier, Daisy and Karry led a history tour that finished at the ruins with a wine tasting hosted by Master Sommelier Michael McNeill. Then Tanya gave me a deep tissue massage at the luxurious spa, just the right end to the afternoon. I’ve had several massages at Barnsley, and they never disappoint. On our first night at Jules, Kris, an amazing mixologist and one of the nicest people we know, made delicious drinks, and Daisy took great care of us again. I’ve been coming to Barnsley Gardens for years, and each visit reminds me what a magical place it is. This time we were thrilled to take part in the James Beard Foundation weekend. Well done, Barnsley staff. We can’t wait to come back!

We saw animals around the property, and our boys had fun fishing. One night we ate at The Woodlands, which was handy since it’s on site, and our server was wonderful. The chicken and filet weren’t cooked quite the way we’d hoped, but our son’s burger was delicious. Patricia at the front desk was especially welcoming and quickly became our favorite. We also loved making s’mores by the fire pit at night and walking around to see the Christmas decorations. The fountain had frozen over, which looked magical after dark. We even got more than 10,000 steps in one day without noticing. We stayed at The Inn at Barnsley Resort with family and had a great time. We’ll be back.

The setting made the wedding feel almost like a storybook, with historic ruins, lush gardens, and quiet woods all around. The property is beautiful, peaceful, and well cared for, and it was a stunning place for the ceremony and photos. Barnsley Gardens somehow feels grand and intimate at once. Walking the grounds, having cocktails on the lawn, and dancing under the reception lights all added to the atmosphere. Everything at the wedding was thoughtfully arranged, from the ceremony area through the reception. The staff were professional, friendly, and attentive, keeping everything on track. The food was excellent and service was top-notch. We attended a wedding here recently, and it was truly unforgettable.
