Deerfield Inn

We got bitten all over by bedbugs. I told the owners, but they didn’t seem to care. They refused a refund and didn’t try to clean the room or move us to another one. That felt inhumane to me. We took plenty of pictures, and everyone needs to know what happened. Something will be done about this. They’ll wish they’d given the refund.

I had to rush my husband to the ER at 6:30 in the morning on checkout day because he was sick. He has an unknown virus, and I’m sorry I couldn’t tidy the room while getting him there. I called and offered to pay for another night over the phone, and they gladly took the payment. When they asked if I wanted the room cleaned, I said yes. I came back around 11 and the wife told me we’d have to leave the next day because the room was a mess and some towels were missing. They were in with our dirty laundry, so I brought them straight to the front desk. I put the DND sign on the door and asked for no more towels, since apparently it was a problem that I’d had to leave so suddenly with my sick husband. I hope the owners or their elderly housekeeper don’t catch this awful virus. It would be a shame for the owner to feel as bad in bed as my husband does. I also hope nobody comes in after I put up the DND sign. If that happens, I’ll call the authorities about harassment. Payback comes to people who treat others unkindly in an emergency. The stay was quiet, and the bed was comfortable. The room was dated and a bit rough around the edges, but it was VERY clean, and the woman at the front desk was very nice. The old heating and air unit had no thermostat, so finding a comfortable temperature was difficult. There was a noticeable gap along one side of the door and across the top, though I never saw any bugs. The towels and washcloths were kept over the toilet, which had no closable lid. One thing to watch when booking online: the card charge was higher than what the hotel charged, and we also paid another $20 cash for our pet. I expected that fee, but thought it was included in the card charge, which still didn’t add up.

The front desk was helpful when I needed extra pillows and a plunger. It was a good experience.
