Westport Inn

The cottage itself is cute and could work for a weekend away, but the road out front was loud, with cars and motorcycles treating it like a drag strip. The main issue was cleanliness: the sheets and quilt were stained, the throw blanket had something white and gross on it, and the bed smelled sweaty. There was stuff on the walls, and the sticky floor needed a sweep. A deep clean and fresh bedding would go a long way toward fixing it.

The bed was a rough part of the stay. The linens were worn and tattered, and the mattress seemed past its best. The frame didn't appear to have proper slats, so the middle dipped. We managed to sleep some after a long drive, but kept climbing out of the dip, with loud squeaks whenever we moved. Getting inside was confusing and awkward. We had to call and text just to check in, which didn't feel welcoming, and the lack of care showed from the start. A strong Fabuloso smell hit us at the door, and the floor felt slick and slimy, as if coated in it. Vinegar and hot water would have been better for us, since the scent doesn't linger and is easier on people with allergies like ours. Under that smell, there was also a faint mildew or sewage odor. The place felt dingy and thrown together. It needs a thorough dusting, more attention to cleaning, and a fresh filter in the air unit. We like supporting local small businesses, but this stay made that difficult.

After an exhausting pump track session, I needed somewhere to crash, and Westport Inn was a good choice. It's close to the new Momentum Bike Park, with clean rooms and parking nearby. The room was small but comfortable, and the price was affordable.

I stayed in four of the ten units over the past few months while making the trip to Joplin several days a week. I was pleased with how each cottage was decorated and how clean it was. There were a few minor repairs needed, but they didn't take away from the stay, the price, or the distinctive feel for what these cottages cost. I had a great experience here.
