The biggest problem for me was breakfast service at the hotel restaurant. The staff member talked openly about internal meetings, spent about 25 minutes on her phone at the bar, and never brought our mimosas. When our food came out wrong, she blamed the chef straight away, saying he had “messed up the order.” He later came out himself, fixed it, and apologized professionally. She also said the payment machine wasn't working and asked us to tip in cash because she was “going through hard times.” That made us uncomfortable and seriously affected the stay. The room itself was clean and the bed mostly comfortable, though the windows let in all the outside noise. I'd booked the penthouse, but its heat wasn't working. After unpacking, I had to move to a smaller room. I accepted it given the circumstances, but it wasn't what I planned or paid for. The stay was otherwise generally fine, but those service problems mean I won't return.

Someone tried to get into my room with a key card that opened the door. The deadbolt stopped them, but it was unsettling. I assume the front desk mixed up a room or key, though I can't be sure. The next morning, nobody was at reception when I tried to check out. A restaurant employee came over, noted my room number, and said I could leave. Dinner was another problem. I heard loud screaming from the kitchen, which felt uncomfortable and unprofessional. After I'd ordered, staff said they couldn't make my meal because of a chef “emergency.” From what I overheard, it sounded like there'd been some kind of altercation and the chef had walked out. I meant to report the room incident at the desk, but there was no one there. I'd heard good things about this hotel from several people and expected a lot more. The stay was very disappointing.

The rooms were spotless, with comfortable beds, lovely bathrooms, and vintage details that suit the historic building. Parking was easy, the neighborhood was clean, and the Akron Civic Theatre was an easy walk away. BLU-Tique is a downtown Akron gem. The 1 Food & Spirits adds a lot, with good food, solid cocktails, an artsy, relaxed feel, and occasional live music. Hotel and restaurant staff were friendly and on the ball. A beautiful, clean, convenient stay. Highly recommend.

The room was comfortable and nice, but they hadn't told us there'd be a private event that evening, so the bar and restaurant were closed. The event ended at 6:30, and we went down for a drink before the bar's 9 o'clock Sunday closing time. We were told it was the bartender's bar and she could close whenever she chose. That should've been explained at check-in. They honestly didn't seem to care and just said we should go down the street. The manager apologized, gave us points, and said he'd take care of it.

The front desk staff looked after us well, and housekeeping did a great job during our stay. Special mention to the breakfast waitress, who was terrific and made us feel at home. The Blu-Tique Hotel has plenty of character, with a clean, stylish, charming building, a great view, and a prime spot downtown. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend it.
