Red Roof Inn Batavia

The staff were pleasant on both visits, and breakfast was okay. I had no complaints about my first stay in November, in room 121. It was clean and pleasant, though quite small and without extras. The bed was very comfortable, the new pillows were nice, and the staff were personable. My December stay in room 112 was also clean and laid out much like the first, but the bed was uncomfortable and creaked with metal sounds every time I moved. Its old, flat pillows weren’t good either, the toilet flushed very slowly, and the bathroom door wouldn’t close properly. I think that room hadn’t been updated like the first one. I’d give my first stay five stars and the second only three.

The room was very clean, parking was easy, and the staff were nice. Free WiFi and breakfast were welcome, and the towels were absorbent rather than rough, with good sheets too. The shower head was nice, though it dripped. There were several problems in room 142. The sink soap dispenser was empty, so I had to get bar soap from the front desk. The bathroom exhaust fan was loud but useless, and after a short shower the mirror was totally fogged until I opened the door. One bed squeaked metallically whenever the person on it moved. The pillows were mediocre, worse than at the last Red Roof Inn we stayed in, and the mattresses transmitted every bit of motion when my partner tossed and turned. Ventilation was mediocre too: CO2 in the room was over 800 PPM in the morning, and the breakfast area rose from around 400 to nearly 700 PPM after just a few minutes of people talking. The bathroom sink flow was so forceful it took ridiculous care to turn it down. I also overheard another guest tell the front desk their room was full of bedbugs, yikes. At breakfast there was only one kind of milk for cereal, and it wasn’t labeled, so I couldn’t tell if it was skim, 2%, or whole.

I found an online deal for $80, and it’s hard to beat that price for a safe, quiet, clean place to sleep, with a hot shower, scrambled eggs, toast, and coffee in the morning. The staff were friendly and helpful, the beds comfortable, and WiFi and printer access were free. It’s definitely a no-frills place. There’s wear and tear in high-traffic spots by the entrance door and in the bathroom, but they’ve done a really good job of making this a solid budget option, and I’m grateful. Considering what other hotels cost, this is an awesome deal. Obviously it’s not a honeymoon spot, but it works great when you need an affordable place.

The pillows are my one complaint. I don’t know why Red Roof won’t invest in better ones, since they all seem flat and hard. The bathroom was small but nice, and the shower had good pressure. The bed was firm and comfortable, and the continental breakfast was decent. This is one of the better Red Roof Inns, well maintained, very clean, and quiet overall.
