Alachua Inn

We asked to cancel our second night, but were told only a manager could do it. They said the manager would be in that morning, and we requested a call to confirm. No call came, and the manager was MIA the whole time and wouldn't speak with us, so I still don't know whether we got a refund. The room was missing working basics: the fridge, TV, Wi-Fi, and lamps didn't work, and there was no phone, so we had to call the desk on our cells. We were told the manager would fix things in the morning. The room also had cobwebs, a stray pubic hair on the bathroom floor, a towel rack coming out of the wall, exposed bathroom wiring, and a moldy, broken fridge plugged into a power strip. The only bedding was a tiny, thin wool blanket. We had a terrible stay.

Amanda at the desk was a real gem, so friendly and helpful, and I felt safe there. The place was easy to find and clean. I only stayed a few hours after the Florida game, but the rooms could use an update and breakfast could use more choices. I'd stay again on game day.

The night girl was awesome, and Paul from housekeeping was great too. He gave us ideas for places to go and food and fun to try. The rooms are old and outdated. The remodeled ones are okay, but they've been updated with old stuff.

The managers, a husband and wife, were so sweet and patient when we had a credit card issue, and they helped us sort it out. The price is hard to beat compared with staying 20 minutes down the road in Gainesville, about $100 less per night. The hotel used to be a Travelodge and is being renovated into a Clarion. Our room was on the backside, where renovations haven't happened yet. It smelled like cigarettes, the old sheets had burn marks, and the shower leaked.
