Holiday Inn Express & Suites Alachua - Gainesville Area by IHG

We had a great stay at this Holiday Inn Express. The breakfast was good and offered a nice variety, and our suite was cozy, clean, and comfortable. Everyone on staff was helpful, attentive, and friendly. Thanks, highly recommended!

I was here for two nights while diving. The room was clean and nice, breakfast was good, and the elevators were quick and efficient. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. I didn't use the pool or hot tub, though they looked nice. I'd stay again if I'm in the area.

The hotel itself was very clean, but the lumpy mattress and the blackout blind spoiled our sleep. It stopped five inches short of closing, and with the bed so close to the window, the morning light woke us at 7 am. When I mentioned it at the desk, they offered 1,000 rewards points. I asked what I could do with them and was told they could go toward another night. But one night's stay costs 20,000 points. They asked me to review the hotel on their site, but you can't log in there, it says to call customer service. Next time I'll probably stay down the road at a more reputable chain. Change your mattresses and fix your blinds. We all stay at hotels to sleep!

My husband and I have stayed here many times to dive at the nearby Springs, but I'll NEVER stay again. He tested positive for covid one day after the free cancellation deadline, so we obviously weren't going to travel and possibly spread it. I called the hotel four days before our one-night stay, on the day he tested positive, and asked if they'd allow a free cancellation one day late or move our booking to a weekend in October so they wouldn't lose the business. They refused both options and said my card would be charged whether we showed up or not. I understand there are policies, but the compassion and understanding were zero stars. I guess they'd rather have a hotel full of covid than move a measly $150 night to another weekend. Ridiculous.
