Suburban Studios Alamogordo

I had to contact corporate to learn what an unexplained $200 charge on my card was for. The manager on duty wouldn't explain it, and it wasn't on my receipt. First they told corporate it was a pet fee, even though my receipt shows I'd already paid that. Then they claimed it was for damages. I took a video before leaving, but they still wouldn't show me any evidence of damage. Corporate could see that the explanations didn't add up, and said the hotel would be fined. Now I have to file a police complaint to dispute the charge. This isn't worth the trouble. Be careful, they charged my card extra without my knowledge.

The front desk was rude and unapologetic when I arrived, and took no responsibility. I had booked a nonsmoking room almost 10 days ahead, but five minutes before check-in they called to say only smoking rooms were available. At the lobby, staff blamed Booking.com and said it had booked me a smoking room. That explanation contradicts itself. If Booking.com had booked a smoking room, how would the hotel have known I originally requested nonsmoking? It seems the hotel sold my room to someone else and tried to cover it up at the last minute. They made no effort to fix the situation and treated me like I was stupid. Very misleading and disrespectful. I wouldn't recommend staying here if you aren't willing to risk a last-minute surprise at check-in.

We were greeted by two lovely women at the front desk on 27 Sept at 1600 hours. They were funny, friendly, and helpful, and check-in was quick. That was a great start. We got two rooms for much less than we'd usually pay, so I had been worried the low price meant a rough stay. I spend about 200 nights a year in hotels, and I was wrong to worry. The rooms were smaller than I pictured, and the beds were full size, which I haven't slept in for years. But they were clean and comfortable. There was also a small kitchenette with a nice-size fridge. I didn't try the stove or utensils, but the fridge kept my things cold. The flat-screen TV was nice, the bathroom was small but had a tub and shower, and there was plenty of hot water. We only needed a shower and a bed while traveling through, and this was more than good enough. The place is centrally located, with lots of restaurants and things to do nearby. I thought the price might mean a substandard room, and I was completely wrong. I'd stay again. They treated us well and gave us a very good room at a budget price. Thanks, my friends!

The rooms have a full-size fridge, a two-burner stove, a kitchen sink, and a dining table. The view of the Alamogordo mountains is great, and the hotel is clean. There isn't an ice machine or soda machine, and you'll need to bring your own cookware, plates, silverware, and other dishes.
