Valley Motel

For a single night after a long day, I got what I needed: somewhere quiet to watch TV and sleep. The bed and linens were clean, the bathroom was also very clean apart from a small piece of soap in the shower, and the service was great. Check-in was quick and easy around 8:45pm, even though we'd driven from Denver with a few stops. Staff were happy to bring an extra pillow when I asked. The room itself could have been cleaner. There was a little carton of creamer and an open pack of hot dogs in the fridge, an open can of tomato paste in the freezer, and coffee grounds left in the coffee maker. The floor also seemed like it hadn't been swept in a while. The shower was small, and the old shower head was clogged, with some jets not working. I expected a bit more, even for the lowest-priced place in town, but this wasn't a destination stay and the quiet, clean bed were enough for me. The lack of cleanliness didn't put me off, though I do wonder how the staff missed such simple things.

The place felt unsafe and noisy all night. People were hanging around the parking lot and outside our door, and the guests in the next room kept knocking loudly and going in and out until almost 2am. Their door was less than a foot from ours, so every knock sounded like it was on our door and startled us, making our dogs bark. The walls were so thin they seemed to have no insulation. Our room was in a corner, and the deadbolt was missing. The doorframe where it had been was splintered, as if someone had kicked it in. The room was supposed to be non-smoking but reeked of old, rancid cigarettes. When we told the front desk, they didn't seem to care and said some people smoke anyway. They made no clear effort to clean it. The bathroom was disgusting, with a stained, dirty shower and a toilet that looked as though it hadn't been cleaned in a while. The floor was dirty too, and there were badly patched holes in the walls. I had to call at 7:30am to check out because the office, which was supposed to open at 7am, wasn't open. The guy sounded like he'd just woken up and barely apologized or seemed interested in our concerns. This was one of the worst motels I've stayed in. We have low standards, and can manage with a clean room and a shower; we've stayed in 2-star hotels on the last week of our road trip and know what to expect. This motel didn't meet basic standards and should be embarrassed to call itself a 2-star. The online pictures do not match the awful state of the rooms, and the advertised renovations were nowhere to be seen. If this is your only option, you'd be better off sleeping in your car. With any standards at all, do NOT come here.

We booked a three-bed suite for a family trip through a third party, and the photos completely fooled me. It was meant to be a one-night stay, but we left because the place was so disgusting. The beds had obvious stains, the floors were nasty, and the bathroom looked like it had just been used and left splattered. The tub was nasty too. I never expected this kind of place, and don't understand how it's still in business. I believe they don't have housekeeping. The guy at the front desk looked like he'd just woken from a nap, and it seemed like he only fixed the bed to make it look done without cleaning the sink, bathroom, or anything else. For a motel like this, I'd rather sleep in my car.

The TV was nice, the air conditioner worked really well, and despite the rain that night, there were no leaks. But the room smelled musty at first, so we opened the window to air it out. The comforter was covered in what looked like dog or cat hair, and the table had dirty spots that needed wiping. The bathroom was pretty dirty too, with hair from previous guests on the walls and in the sink, plus mildew all over the shower curtain.
