SCP Mendocino Coast Lodge

I tried contacting the hotel twice in different ways before posting this, and after more than a month I still haven’t had any response. At $500 a night, I expected better. The bathrobe was dirty, the kettle still had the previous guests’ tea in it, and both chairs had marks that looked like bodily fluids, though they could probably have been steamed out. The tissue box had greasy fingerprints on it, which was gross and seemed like it should just be replaced. Breakfast is no longer included. I understand that, though it used to be a nice extra. This used to be my favorite place to stay on the coast, but I won’t be returning.

The balcony was completely blocked by overgrown bushes, so we couldn’t see the ocean at all despite the advertised “oceanfront view.” The fireplace didn’t work, the beds and sheets were extremely uncomfortable, and voices from the upstairs neighbors kept us up late. The room was dirty when we arrived and the place felt neglected. We also weren’t allowed to check in until 4 PM, which was frustrating. For what we paid, the misleading view, poor cleanliness and comfort, and late check-in made for a really unpleasant stay. It felt more like a neglected roadside motel than a coastal lodge. I wouldn’t return or recommend it for a relaxing getaway.

We only spent one night, but I’d happily come back tomorrow. The rooms were beautiful and romantic, the views lovely, and the staff super friendly. We had both breakfast and dinner at the amazing restaurant. The food was delicious, I even licked my plate and didn’t care who saw. Highly recommend.

The view from our beautiful, cozy room was breathtaking, and its old-world style was charming. It was a wonderful stay, and I can’t wait to come back. The room didn’t have a TV, which was the one small drawback. It cost a bit more, but that spectacular view made it worth every penny.
