Desert Sands Inn & Suites

We were driving across the country and this was a good-priced stop. Parking inside the gate made us feel safe, and bringing our dog was easy to arrange. McDonald’s is right next door, which was handy for grabbing breakfast before getting back on the road. The staff were really nice and excellent at both check-in and check-out.

The secure grounds were a real plus for staying here for weeks or months, and the staff were friendly and helpful day to day. It seems like a good fit for both shorter visits and longer stays. Guests also find the place clean and comfortable, and management responsive when things come up. I’d consider it for an extended stay.

My partner and I stayed a few nights and got charged for the room plus a separate deposit, which was released as expected. But then we noticed another charge for $206.97 and raised it right away with the woman at the front desk. She said it would disappear once the $75 hold cleared, but it didn’t. I emailed a copy of the charge after calling for the manager and speaking with someone who called himself “Nick.” He just told me to wait. When I called again, “Nick” admitted he wasn’t the manager and was very poor to deal with. He initially wouldn’t give me his name, kept asking what I wanted or needed, and repeatedly hung up on me. Now he answers and immediately disconnects. I need to speak to the manager as soon as possible. This is unacceptable.

The gate didn’t make me feel secure at all, since it opened when someone walked up to it, and there were people wandering the grounds smoking. Inside, the room smelled like someone had just smoked several packs, the towels were stained yellow, and the water never got hot. The bed bug bites were awful, with bugs all over the room. I’ve traveled a lot, and this was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in, with the worst owner and management I’ve dealt with. I called 20 times over two weeks trying to reach them and got no response. They seem not to show up or care. Save your money and your legs from all those bites. This place is a scam. Stay away.
