The Monterey Motel

I stayed in December, and the holiday decorations were really cute. The location is handy, within walking distance of old town, and the lobby bar had great drinks at good prices. Traveling alone as a woman, I never felt unsafe. Everyone on staff I interacted with was kind and helpful. Loved my stay here!

Traveling with my son from Denver to Orlando, I came across this little gem and booked a room at The Monterey Motel with four double bunk beds. It looked fun, and booking it turned out to be a great call. The room was clean and modern, the staff were really helpful, and there were plenty of good dinner options nearby. If you’re in the area, book this room. You won’t be disappointed.

The shower is the one real letdown. Water pressure is low, and without a door the half of you facing away from the water gets freezing. Long or thick hair is hard to rinse properly. I wanted to believe the other reviewers were being precious about it, but they weren’t. Still, this is a fantastic motel for the price, and I’ll be back. On a cross-country trip I stayed at several revived drive-up motels, and this was the best. The stylish, comfortable rooms were clean and looked new, with a memory foam mattress and clothes steamer. Restaurants, a coffee shop, fast food, and a park along the Rio Grande River are all within walking distance. You also get a free craft cocktail or beer, and my room was upgraded. I paid under a hundred per night during the off season. Four stars because a good bed and hot shower are the two essentials for an overnight stop.

The small lobby is where you check in, and it gives you a first look at the gorgeous little top-shelf bar. Mark, a charming, experienced Bar Tender, welcomes you with excellent specialty drinks. Then you head into a nicely appointed room with a very comfortable king size bed and a great shower. Sleep well! Stay at the Monterey Motel once and you’ll come back again and again. It’s a lovely, fully modernized motel.
