Travelodge Midtown

The staff were wonderful, and the price was pretty low, all things considered. They also have smoking rooms, which is good if you smoke, and we didn’t find bedbugs. Still, the hotel itself wasn’t nice or especially clean. Breakfast was just toast and cereal, and the soda machine was broken. We probably won’t come back.

The only reason I gave it one star was the very cold AC. The room otherwise felt unsafe, since the door wouldn’t lock from outside and I had to use the deadbolt from inside to feel even somewhat secure. I avoided the sheets because they had bugs and bodily fluids on them. The carpet was old and shaggy, the bathroom had linoleum, and the toilet paper holder was missing entirely. It looks like the property dates from the 80s and hasn’t been repaired or renovated since. Don’t consider staying here.

We specifically needed three beds, so I called to ask about a rollaway. I was told they had one, and called back to confirm before booking. At check-in, the clerk said they didn’t have any. When I reminded him what I’d been promised, he said he’d look into it and call our room. It was already nine at night. The first room was disgusting. There was hair and wrappers on the bathroom floor, stains on the toilet, hair in a towel, and brown and white spots all over the bedspread. One roommate looked under the bed and found a half-eaten slice of pepperoni pizza and dirty socks. It clearly hadn’t been cleaned in ages, so we moved to another room. I kept calling the desk about the rollaway, and the clerk kept saying he’d call back. At about 11:10, I went down myself. After searching his computer, he had nothing, so he sent me to the manager, who finally said there were no rollaways at all. By then I was furious. The manager’s only offer was to send us to another hotel at 11:20 pm, after we’d been checked in nearly two hours and had driven all day. One roommate ended up on the floor. Awful rooms, service, and experience.

The room was dangerous and dirty. The tub was slimy, slippery, and unclean. The fire alarm went off several times, causing the hallway doors to close, but housekeeping wedged them open with towels. That seems unsafe if there were a real fire. A drawer on the large dresser and TV stand was broken, and its front came off when I tried to open it. The blankets were scratchy and had holes, and the door stops were coming loose from the wall. Breakfast was gross too. I’d pay to stay somewhere else.
