Four Points by Sheraton Alexandria

The staff made this stay memorable. Everyone was kind, professional, and ready to help with whatever I needed. My room was comfortable, spotless, and well kept, better than I expected. It was a five-star experience from beginning to end, and I’d happily stay here again. I recommend it if you’re looking for a welcoming place with great service.

Room 130 was the one real problem for me. It’s beside both the elevators and housekeeping area, so there was noise all the time: doors slamming from 6:45 in the morning, music over loudspeakers, and people coming and going as late as 10 p.m. to midnight. I’d probably have given the hotel five stars in a quieter room. The stay itself was decent and comfortable, and the hotel met expectations, but if noise bothers you, I’d avoid 130.

The staff were friendly, but there are two big problems. There’s only one washer in the building, so my group takes our laundry to another laundromat. That’s business the hotel is missing out on. There also aren’t food options nearby, and the small market by the front desk has very little to choose from.

I chose the Sheraton 4 Points because they’re usually fabulous, but Alexandria LA was a major disappointment after a long trip. They seemed excited to put me on the first floor, as if that was a treat, but my room was right by the elevator and it was miserable. The hall floors aren’t fully carpeted, so every roller bag going toward the elevator rattled by at all hours. Music played over a PA beside the elevator, and the door and walls did little to block sound. It felt like being in a nightclub day and night. Neighbors’ doors slammed constantly, and the service room was across the narrow hall. I could hear carts dragged along the bare floor, and sometimes the staff left that door open while clanking around inside. Groups talked loudly near the elevators for half an hour or more before heading to their rooms. I asked several times to switch, but they said every room was taken. I didn’t believe that, because my daughter called and booked a room for the same nights, and one was available. It seemed they just didn’t want to do the work of moving me. I was exhausted every morning, barely getting uninterrupted quiet from 3:30 to 5 a.m., and had to be up at 5 for an hour’s drive each day. My eyes were red and burning. This was the worst hotel stay I’ve ever had, and I travel a lot without always staying at top-notch hotels. The rooms are basic, and towel and cleaning service were minimal. The water never got hot enough, though it wasn’t cold. The restaurant is a small, hard-to-describe setup with too few staff, and food took forever. There’s one microwave in the lobby and barely a gym, if you can even call it that. I’ve slept better at Motel 6s off the interstate on cross-country trips. Never again. I need to remember to check reviews first. ☹️☹️☹️
