Red Roof Inn PLUS+ Washington DC - Alexandria

I liked the room, and the location was convenient. I know it's a three-star hotel, but I'd have appreciated a little more attention to guests, like offering disposable slippers. I don't think that's too much to ask. When you're traveling a long distance, you might not pack slippers, and walking around in your shoes all day isn't comfortable. I spent all three days in mine. I'd like them to be more attentive.

We ended up here after weather delayed our DCA flights to Florida, since we didn't want to sleep in the airport. I called Red Roof Plus, they had a room, and check-in to an upper-floor room was quick. The beds were comfortable, and the sheets were white with no stains. The room wasn't bad, but the floor felt sticky, as though it needed another mop and a rinse to remove cleaning-solution residue. In the elevator, I first noticed a urine smell and a wet spot on the floor.

I chose this hotel because it allows pets, and the upgraded room option looked really nice when I booked. Once I got there, it felt like stepping back 20 years. Paint was peeling in places, and the AC looked like George Washington had used it. The room smelled like dog pee, and the king bed was springy like a trampoline. There was human hair stuck to the tub walls, and the tub was rusty. I know it's a cheap hotel, but owners should take pride in their property and go around with a paintbrush when they have time. Paint a foot of wall or door each day and eventually the wall will be painted.

The room's cleanliness initially put me off: the floors, bed covers, and AC unit were dirty. The staff were willing to replace what they could. What really earned my high rating was how management handled a stressful lost item. I left my AirPods behind, and staff checked for them themselves. Once they found them, the general manager shipped them to me. I appreciated the care they showed. I just wish the room had received that same attention.
