It felt like a proper break from city life, but we were still close to all the conveniences we wanted. My girlfriend and I spent the weekend here and had a fantastic time. The room was clean and fresh, the property was amazing, and the service was friendly without hovering. I’d highly recommend it for a relaxing getaway with someone special.

The bed was comfortable, and the house felt clean and full of history, but at this price I wouldn’t come back. We were in town for classes and had to leave before breakfast each morning. The host left fruit, bread, and jam for us, though the first loaf was very dry, so we bought food in town. A fresh loaf and fruit were out the next morning. I was disappointed that the breakfast hours weren’t included in the description, since we couldn’t enjoy the breakfast part of the stay. Our south-facing room got very warm with the curtains open all day. The ceiling fan only had a low setting, the windows wouldn’t open, and the AC was locked to 75 degrees in the main part of the house. It was a hot night and I slept poorly. We closed the curtains the next day. We arrived early and tried knocking and calling the number the host had left, but couldn’t reach her. I left voicemails too, and none were returned. We waited on the patio; she arrived about ten minutes late, apologized, and quickly showed us around. She mentioned she had another guest in town and was heading back to Grand Rapids. She also told us our room had no key, which she said was typical for a bed and breakfast. I wasn’t comfortable with that and didn’t leave valuables in the room. The landscape was palatial and historic, and the carpet in our room was pleasant.

Sheila greeted us as soon as we got there, and we were able to check in early. The house and grounds are beautiful, with a different layout in each room. Our bed was comfy, and breakfast was served in the morning with exceptional service.

We spent a peaceful stretch of time on the patio, and the rooms were cozy. We could hang out in the kitchen too, which made the place feel like home. Sheila is so kind and sweet that I’d gladly come back and give her my business again. The property is beautiful and lovingly kept, and she makes a mean breakfast. We were in Allegan for a ghost hunt, so if spooky stuff is your thing, ask her about the activity at the estate.

We stayed upstairs, where our room had a full bed, chairs, heat, and a small A/C unit. It was clean and comfortable, and internet access worked without any trouble. The bathroom is shared with other guests on the floor, and guests can use the rest of the house, including sitting areas and a small patio outside. Sheila was friendly and answered all our questions. Breakfast comes with the stay and is served family style with the other guests at 9:00 AM. We had pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, and fresh fruit. A nice place to stay if you’re in the area.
