The room had a cute rustic look, the bed was comfortable, and it was convenient for downtown and restaurants. Service was excellent, too. When the heater gave us trouble, they came quickly and were very nice, but the promised discount for the inconvenience never came through. The train nearby passed hourly, blowing its whistle until 3:30 a.m. Outlets weren't conveniently placed, and the lighting was dim unless we left the blinds open. There was a lot of mold and soap scum on the shower tiles, so we stood on a towel. The main floor also looked like it had been mopped with a dirty mop.

The bed was so comfortable, and the tub filled quickly with really hot water. Our room was clean and cozy, and there was a cute courtyard where we could sit, though it was too cold to get photos during our visit. The on-site lobby stays open 24 hours with a code, so we could get ice and coffee without going far. Two things kept this from a five-star rating: someone could easily look through the front door unless you covered it with a blanket, and you have to pick up your room key at the Holland Hotel nearby, though it's still up the street. MIGUEL at the Holland Hotel was incredible, friendly, and professional. He told us about the area and double-checked anything he wasn't sure about so we had the right information. 10/10 service!

The staff were wonderful, from the young man at check-in to the housekeepers and the person I spoke with on the phone. The room was clean, at least. But I reached out privately about the problems first and heard nothing back, so I won't return. I'd booked the room with the garden tub because my husband and I wanted a good soak. We're somewhat local and had wanted to try this place for a while. Instead, sewer gas from the leaking toilet hit us as soon as we walked in and was even worse in the bathroom. I couldn't stay in there long enough to enjoy the tub, which was the whole reason I chose the room. The AC made a terrible grinding noise, like something was caught in the blades, so we couldn't use it. The bed frame wasn't attached to the wall at the head. When we sat on the foot of the bed, the frame and mattress tipped up and slid down. It happened more than once, so we had to be careful. The bed felt cheap, thin, and hard, and wasn't comfortable. I've lived in a 100-year-old house and prefer that feel to newer buildings, so I knew what to expect from an old place. Still, there's a line between historic charm and run-down, and this felt shabby all over. If the other problems hadn't happened, or if the room had cost much less, the wear might not have bothered me as much.

It's a very cool spot, and the young woman at reception was really friendly and told me a lot about the area. I got a room next to the ice machine, though, and it kept running through the night, making a lot of noise. I'd still recommend the place, but ask for a room away from the lobby.

The pool was a hit with the kids, who loved jumping into the deep end. It wasn't huge, but it was great. We stayed in a king/queen suite that was really spacious, cute, comfortable, and very clean. Staff were helpful and even got us a rollaway bed. We could park close to the room, which made loading and unloading easy. We'd definitely stay again!
