Hampton Inn & Suites St. Louis/Alton

The staff were friendly and welcoming, and I gave two stars because housekeeping eventually serviced the room. I checked in Thursday and noticed dirty curtains, a damaged bathroom, a bathtub that looked stained or dirty, and red marks by the mirror near the sink. There were also two stink bugs during my stay. I left Friday morning and came back around 5 PM to find no room service had been done. I left again Saturday, and that time the room was finally serviced. The pool water was murky, nothing like the clear water in the pictures. I would have added videos to show how bad the room was if I could figure out how.

The young man who checked us in was really nice and helpful, but they put us in a mobility room instead of the king suite we booked. The pool was disgusting, and the water felt oily. Later we bought snacks for our daughter at the front desk. The person there, Ashley, was rude and seemed to hate her job or life. A frozen meal someone had left out was very warm to the touch. We told her, and she said she’d put it away, then watched us as if we were stealing while we tried to choose snacks. It felt uncomfortable and unprofessional. We were told we’d get Hilton Honors points because of the awful stay, but they still haven’t arrived. We also think our daughter may have hand, foot, and mouth disease now because of the disgusting pool. I definitely wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The food at breakfast was bland and tasteless, and it was served on plastic plates with plastic cutlery, which set a poor tone. The front desk service also left me cold. The woman there seemed to have a “pay and go” attitude, with no friendliness at all. Some courtesy and a bit of that familiar American smile would make a difference with international guests. The experience didn’t live up to the high ratings online.

I chose this hotel for its indoor pool, but the pool was closed. The rooms need updating too. And the price I was told during booking confirmation was nearly $200 less than what I was quoted when I checked in.
