Holiday Inn Express and Suites Alton St Louis Area by IHG

We were there in winter, but I still loved being right by the walking path and the butterfly preserve behind the hotel. Tristan at the front desk was wonderful and let us use the lobby to arrange florals for a wedding I was attending. Everyone was great, and Tristan really made the stay special. It’s a pleasant hotel, and I’d absolutely stay again.

I’m here for a week, and it’s only my first night, so I may add more later. But I had to mention the shower pressure right away. If you travel for work, you know how frustrating it is when hotel water barely rinses the shampoo out. No problem like that here! The bed is soft, the AC and heat can keep the fan running, the staff are nice, and Target is close by. 10/10.

I was exhausted and trying to get some rest after a very hard day, and the service made that difficult. Uber Eats wasn’t allowed to bring my order to the room, which was really inconvenient. If that’s the hotel’s rule, there should at least be a sign at the entrance, or someone should bring deliveries to guests. The TV remote also didn’t work. I called the receptionist and was told to unplug the TV and turn it back on. I did, and it worked, but I shouldn’t have to troubleshoot things in my room myself. Someone should have been sent to fix it. The manager didn’t seem to be making an effort to keep guests happy, even though people pay for a place to rest.

We had a nice, clean, well-stocked room, and the staff were courteous and helpful when we checked in. Then around 4 a.m. I got up to use the bathroom and spotted a bug on the bed. I trapped it in a cup and searched online, where I found it was a bed bug. We stripped the bed and saw no others, but there was no way to get back to sleep. When we checked out, I handed the cup to the man at the front desk. I hope they address it. I usually just avoid a place after a bad stay, but I wish I’d seen a warning before booking, so I’m sharing this for other travelers.
