Quality Inn & Suites Altoona - Des Moines

The location was excellent, and the front desk person was super friendly. Our room was clean, comfortable, and surprisingly roomy for such an inexpensive stay. A hot tub would have made it even better.

Breakfast was disappointing, with only a few guests there but most of the items already gone. The sidewalks hadn't been cleared of snow either. In the room, the furniture was stained, and the marks on the walls beside the railings looked like blood. There was no elevator. First we were told we'd be on the first floor, then that we'd have to stay on the second. Disappointing.

Cory on the night shift was great. He helped us check in, chatted with us, and suggested some good places to eat. He also tried to get the feminine care machine working, but it turned out to be broken and out of order. The morning staff member was rude when I offered unopened feminine care items for the front desk, explaining what had happened overnight. He said they didn't accept them and that the machine had been broken for a while. When I asked what a guest was supposed to do in an emergency, he said it wasn't the hotel's problem. They should put up an out-of-order sign at least. Breakfast was okay, nothing special, and the rooms were clean.

The room was clean and welcoming, and the continental breakfast was well stocked. Service was great and the front desk staff were friendly. I'd have given five stars if there were a hot tub.
