Comfort Inn & Suites Alvarado

We keep choosing this place because it’s close to home and the only hotel around with a Jacuzzi room, but this was the fifth time we’ve found the tub dirty. I run a cleaning business, and I don’t want to scrub when I’m paying over $150 to relax. This time I had to clean the tub and change the sheets myself again. There was hair and glitter under the top blanket, and the tub had black specks stuck to soap scum that took scrubbing to remove. The soap scum itself wiped off with a finger. We’ve raised this with the manager and desk staff before, and they haven’t fixed it. We were told we’d get discounts, a room cleaning, or points, but we’ve now learned those promises were lies. Choice Rewards said the staff can’t give us points. I feel taken advantage of, especially since we don’t discover the mess until after paying. With kids at home, we trusted what they told us and hoped the room would be clean. The front desk woman with the smoker’s voice was rude and didn’t listen. The checkout woman was very sweet, but she also lied to us. If my cleaning business charged for changing sheets and scrubbing the tub, it’d be about $100 each time. That’s $500 worth of cleaning across five visits, after we’ve already spent $450 to come here, and we can’t sleep peacefully knowing they’ve lied to our faces to keep us coming back. Breakfast is trash, everything’s microwaved, and we saw two bugs by the kitchen. Ask to see your room before paying. I hope the owner sees this and makes it right, and that the next guests don’t get fooled like we did. I’d share photos, but they’ve disabled that option. God bless.

The one thing that bothered us was the outdoor lighting, which needs adjusting because the birds made noise all night. Otherwise, we had a pleasant stay: everything was clean and quiet, Glenda welcomed us kindly, and breakfast was fresh and good.

We had a very pleasant holiday stay and will be back. The hot breakfast was fresh, the staff always went above and beyond, and the place felt safe. For the price, this is the cleanest and best place in alvarado. It’s right on or off Hwy. 35N, too. What more could you ask for?

The staff were friendly, which was about the only upside. We booked three rooms while driving from Rio grande valley to ohio on 8/15/25, hoping to rest before another 17 hours on the road. Room 319 was for my mother, who’s in her 80s and needed a wheel-in shower. It smelled strongly of musk and mildew as soon as we entered, and the AC leaked until the carpet in front was soaked. There weren’t other rooms with that shower, so we used air freshener since we only needed to rest a couple of hours. Room 323 was fine. Room 322 looked okay, but when I pulled the sheets back to check for crawlers, I found one at the head of the bed after moving the mattress. I gathered our things, showed the front desk, and asked to move because I couldn’t sleep knowing what had been under my pillow. They moved us to 325, where the rusted window wouldn’t shut properly. It wobbled when touched like it might fall out, and hot air and traffic noise came through, so the AC couldn’t keep the room comfortable. The room wasn’t clean either: there was a used bar of soap under the sink and food covered in ants. We took everything back to the car and made do because we badly needed sleep. The hotel needs major repairs and updates. I’d stay somewhere else if I’m in the area again.
