I appreciated how neat and clean the room was, but breakfast was a real letdown. It was just a Starbucks, with one person trying to serve customers and handle the kitchen, so even a simple order took a long time. We eventually gave up and went elsewhere to eat.

I travel through Amarillo whenever I head back to Texas, but after this experience I won't stay at this location again. The stay was booked through Chase Travel for 11/23/2025 and cost $183.88. I later found an extra $16.24 parking charge. I've stayed at Holiday Inn, Fairfield, and another Courtyard and have never paid a parking fee. No one mentioned it at check-in. I called to ask about the charge, but before the issue was resolved, Meddy, who said she was the manager, hung up on me. She was on duty around 11:50 p.m. Mountain Time on 02/12/2026. The service was very unprofessional, and I was furious and upset about how she handled the call.

We paid extra through Marriott.com for a breakfast package that included our kids, but the bistro staff said the kids weren't covered. The breakfast was only okay, and the service was a nightmare. With no manager on site, I had to call Marriott customer service myself before the employee agreed to reopen the ticket. The front desk then assured us food would be made for the kids. After waiting 30 minutes, I checked again and the same employee said we hadn't ordered and would need to wait again. It felt intentional. She was dismissive and stubborn from the start, and a simple issue turned into repeated waits that made us feel like a burden. Very disappointing for a Marriott property. We had booked the night before, and I would tell people to stay away.

At $500 NZ dollars a night, this was poor value. I heard the Barfield is nice and would try it next time. There was no breakfast buffet, just a very limited set of basics: a breakfast burrito, packet oatmeal, Starbucks coffee, a bagel, and cream cheese. The hotel's reservations system was down while I was there, so the front desk woman had to take each guest to a back office and check them in on an old, clunky computer. Four of us waited, and it took half an hour. The wireless internet was down most of my stay, so I used my phone as a hotspot and went through my company's data plan. My room also wasn't made up each day. When I called the front desk to ask why, she said she didn't know. For what Marriott charges, that's a poor experience. Marriott trades on its good name, but it's getting lazy.

I had a quiet, clean, comfortable room and really enjoyed my business stay. The hotel is in a historic building, but the rooms and amenities have been updated. Several restaurants and bars are an easy walk away. The front desk man working the evenings was friendly, greeted me, and answered my questions. There's a hotel coffee shop, maybe Starbucks, with different coffees and light breakfast things like scones and fruit; the woman working there that morning was polite and efficient. The shower took an exceedingly long time to heat up. A coworker at another downtown hotel had the same issue, and with the building's age and the temperature down in the 40s the night before, I can understand it. There was plenty of hot water once it came through, but it took patience.
