We arrived late after driving 12 hours and were exhausted, so we stayed the night. They were apparently remodeling, but the dust was everywhere and the floor looked as if it hadn’t been mopped for months. We wanted to take our minds off the situation by watching TV, but there was no remote anywhere. They shouldn’t have been putting people in those rooms. The only star is so people know I didn’t forget to select one. Update: La Quinta’s public response was polite and accepted responsibility, saying we’d been put in a room we shouldn’t have been. But my husband sent a private email with much the same complaint, photos, and a video, and got a reply that didn’t accept responsibility. It made it sound as if they’d done us a favor by letting us stay there. Infuriating. We weren’t there during a holiday period. It was 11/22, a week before Thanksgiving. Their email said the city was fully booked for the holiday, availability in Amarillo was very limited, and our $54.15 reservation was far below the standard holiday rate of $119. It said canceling might have left us paying more than twice as much elsewhere or unable to find a room. They also said major renovations were underway, most upgraded rooms were finished but a few were still in progress, and their intention was to provide a clean bed and hot shower on a night with almost no hotel availability. They apologized for the inconvenience, thanked us for our loyalty, and hoped we’d try again after renovations were complete.
The room was clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. The mattress and pillows might be the one drawback. They weren’t quite what I expect from La Quinta, though comfortable enough for the price. The location was convenient to the medical centers, and the rate for our two nights was right. I’d recommend it.
The front desk employees were nice, and I don’t blame them, but the stay was awful. I booked because the listing advertised an airport shuttle. Only after I’d paid, while checking in, did I learn they didn’t have one. It was too late to cancel and I was told there’d be no refund. The hotel also wasn’t close to the airport. The room was filthy, with a very dirty toilet and tub. The area didn’t feel safe, with people hanging around in rooms with doors open and coming and going in the parking lot. The ice machine was broken, and after an unsettling night, there was no hot water in the morning, so I couldn’t shower. I couldn’t afford another hotel and felt trapped after being told at check-in that a refund wasn’t possible. I’ve never left a bad review before, but feel I should warn other people. The room cost $77.22, plus $25 for my pet and a $50 deposit I haven’t received back yet, for a total of $152.22. It was the worst hotel room I’ve seen, and I hope the deposit is just taking time to come through.
The staff were friendly and tried their best to help, but the hotel was run down and dirty. Even the remodeled rooms felt old, with dingy furniture and a stained bath. The fridge in my remodeled room didn’t work, so I had to move all my luggage to another room with a working one. I was tired from a cross-country drive, and my room was at the top of an old, creaky stairwell. Its doors had broken glass panes, with pieces of glass on the floor. Other guests were yelling profanities outside my door at 4 a.m., and there were multiple other instances of people shouting during the night and morning. The building was shabby, and the other guests were worse. Don’t mess with Texas, keep driving.
The room had a lot of problems. The shower curtain was covered in black mold, the floor was dirty as if it hadn’t been mopped in at least a week, and the toilet’s old flush valve meant I had to hold the handle down. It took about ten minutes of running the water before it was barely warm enough to shower. The fridge was warm, with a puddle in the freezer. The soap holder had fallen out of the shower wall, so I used the super glue I happened to have and fixed it myself. The sink and shower dispensers were empty or didn’t work. They’re supposedly remodeling, but it looked to me like they were putting in old items from another hotel, stored out in the parking lot.
