La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Amarillo Airport

The King room was spacious and clean, and being near the airport suited our needs. Check-in and checkout, though, both took a very long time because the front desk staff moved slowly. We came in during the afternoon and left very early in the morning. Both shifts had older men who also had trouble hearing, and our large group made the process even slower. We normally stay with IHG, Hilton, or Bonvoy and don’t run into this.

For a two-week work assignment, this hotel was comfortable and convenient. I stayed from March 29th through April 10th, and the room was clean, in good shape, and ready when I arrived. The beds were supportive after long workdays. Housekeeping left small bottles of shampoo and conditioner plus a bar of soap instead of wall dispensers, and reliably replaced them whenever I came back. The TV had digital service, though its guide grouped channels instead of showing them all in one clear list. The location worked especially well for me, right off I-40 with easy access to the highway. Convenience stores and gas stations are nearby, Buc-ee’s is a short drive away, and Big Tex is down the road. Parking was fine overall. Front spaces filled first, but there was plenty more by another entrance around the side. Semi-truck parking is offered. At times, RVs or buses took several regular spaces in the main lot instead of using the oversized vehicle area, reducing parking for cars. Breakfast was the standard La Quinta Bright Side Breakfast. The watery scrambled eggs were my main complaint, as at most La Quinta locations I’ve visited. The La Quinta in Marble Falls, Texas had a fuller buffet and someone making custom burritos with real scrambled eggs, chorizo, bacon, sausage, and potatoes, including a couple to go. The La Quinta in Joplin, Missouri had an omelet station. Those places show La Quinta can do more, but Amarillo Airport kept to a basic, dependable breakfast. There’s an indoor pool, gym, and laundry machines, but I didn’t use them, so I can’t speak to them from experience. I’d happily stay here again for work. Next time I’d request an even-numbered room facing Big Tex, since T-Mobile signal was noticeably better on that side. Clean rooms, dependable service, a convenient location, and good value made this a solid extended stay.

Amanda "D" at the front desk helped us check in early when our 12-volt cooler for prescription medicine started having trouble. We needed to plug it in while we got replacement parts, and she was professional and very helpful. The room was great. We’re Platinum members, paid with points, and are on a 21-day road trip, usually staying with Wyndham hotels. We stayed at this same property on a 39-day road trip two years ago. I was impressed to find both front desk clerks were still the same employees. Thanks, Amanda.

This would have been a solid five-star stay, but when I returned after a long day, all my belongings had been taken out of my room even though my stay was continuing. The front desk eventually worked out what had happened and got my things back, but the food from the refrigerator had already been thrown away. No one explained why my things were removed or offered even a small compensation. That’s why I’m giving it two stars.
